The #1 Challenge

Is Accepted

I knew the #1 challenge when I started this blog would be to keep up. My first couple days, I posted in bulk — just to give myself some backlog. And after a while, I was invited to post in a few publications, and I have. And I post here and there, with Another Fucking Publication being my favorite (for obvious reasons).

But the challenge is accepted. To keep up.

Now, there’s no question that keeping up for the sake of keeping up is to the detriment of quality. And while everything I publish here on Medium does serve a future purpose, there’s a good amount of filler I put out there.

See, this is not simply an experiment. It’s not simply marketing. It’s not just content creation. It’s also me establishing a practice.

Look, I’m a beginner. It’s one reason why I’M PRACTICING is in my bio. Because I am! And I’d rather be upfront about being a beginner than start this thing with a lot of stressed-out pompousness.

I’m not a new writer. But I am a new online writer. And there is an important difference.

That being said, keeping up is tough.

I have a sick relationship with pressure and obligation. I believe pressure and obligation lead to freedom and greatness. I also believe that having a poor relationship with pressure and obligation can lead to serious health problems. Heck, I collapsed from stress, exhaustion, and dehydration before.

And that’s not a good track record.

I am, however, getting better at it. In fact, in my general life, I’m MUCH better than just four years ago.

And so the challenge, as I said before, is a challenge. And it should be a challenge.

The Most Boring Writers In The World

Write mostly about writing.

The Most Boring Earners In The World

Talk mostly about their earnings.

But I Get It (Kinda)

It’s easier, and maybe in terms of consistency better, to put out pieces about writing and earnings than to NOT put a piece out, if that’s your model. I’m not trying to stop boring writers and boring earners from being boring. I can’t, and it would be a complete waste of life.

From the perspective of having a practice, I do at least respect the effort and consistency.

A Different Approach

With this blog, I aim to practice principles demonstrated by experts. I’ve talked before about how I get a lot out of Alex and Leila Hormozi’s content. Gary Vee has been a massive help. His content still fires me up. So does Myron Golden.

When I throw Seth Godin into the mix, things take on a twist. Seth Godin says strategy is a philosophy of becoming. Alex Hormozi says something like strategy = priorities. I don’t think these interpretations are incompatible. But they are different ways of looking at strategy.

I Won’t Write A Newsletter

Until I’ve taken a massive plunge into the market, and submerged and swam in it for a year. That massive plunge is not this blog. This blog is the baby toe before the massive plunge.

Medium is my home base.

With a 6-day writing schedule, I’m learning firsthand what it means to keep up for the sake of keeping up.

I started a business a couple weeks after I started this blog. Because I was qualified, I had an opportunity, and it was a perfect fit into a market. I fulfill a need.

Fulfilling that need and maximizing that opportunity is paving the way for me to maximize this opportunity, an opportunity in intellectual property.

Intellectual property is my dream. And I’m making that dream happen one day at a time, one joke at a time, one line at a time.

Happy Monday, ya filthy animals.

Swivels in, Swivels out.
